I’ve been listening to the Three Ravens podcast for a few years now. I think I discovered them in their second season. When they published their first book “Three Ravens Folktales” this summer, 2025, I reached out to see if they would be interested in doing a collaboration beer.
An exchange of emails led to a great zoom chat with Eleanor and Martin. After discussing favourite stories and preferred beer styles, we settled on brewing an English IPA named Mermaid of Zennor.
Unfortunately, Eleanor and Martin had to cancel a planned book promotion tour so I had to brew the beer without them. However, it should hopefully be available in cans just before Christmas.
The Mermaid of Zennor has long been a favourite tale of Ruth’s. It tells the story of Matty Trewhalla who was never seen in his home village of Zennor after he met the beautiful Mermaid, Asenora.
“Her hair was long and wild, every shade of gold and brown, and some of it deeper, softer coloured like the inside of a wave.!
